The Flory–Huggins Isotherm and Water Contaminant Adsorption: Debunking Some Modeling Fallacies
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Flory–Huggins (FH) isotherm first appeared in the literature of water contaminant adsorption mid-2000s. It has come into limelight and received considerable attention recent years, large part due to regular coverage review articles. Here, we point out that a linear form FH is incompatible with original nonlinear version. We show conclusively was destroyed beyond recognition by linearization method. As result, linearized suffers from following serious defects: (1) Its parameter estimates are incorrect nonsensical. (2) not possible plot standard curves adsorbed phase concentration versus liquid concentration. These anomalies, or “red flags”, arise use data correlation reported for time. To avoid publishing meaningless research, it advisable fitting. go routine application (e.g., simple thermodynamic calculation), this work describes novel uses evaluate energy distribution heterogeneous adsorbents.

Modeling of Experimental Adsorption Isotherm Data
Adsorption is considered to be one of the most effective technologies widely used in global environmental protection areas. Modeling of experimental adsorption isotherm data is an essential way for predicting the mechanisms of adsorption, which will lead to an improvement in the area of adsorption science. In this paper, we employed three isotherm models, namely: Langmuir, Freundlich, and Dubin...

Concern about environmental protection has increased over the years from a global viewpoint. To date, the prevalence of adsorption separation in the environmental chemistry remains an aesthetic attention and consideration abroad the nations, owning to its low initial cost, simplicity of design, ease of operation, insensitivity to toxic substances and complete removal of pollutants even from dil...
متن کاملIsotherm Equation for Water Vapor Adsorption onto Activated Carbon
A simple isotherm model has been developed for the type-5 equilibrium adsorption systems by considering the effects of both primary and secondary adsorptive sites. The model was applied to interpret experimental data describing water vapor adsorption capacities of four activated carbon adsorbents for relative vapor pressures from 0.0 to 0.95 and temperatures between 288 and 308 K. Good agreemen...
متن کاملModeling of Adsorption Isotherm Constants Using Regression Analysis & Neural Networks
This paper deals with modeling the suitability of novel adsorbents in terms of the isotherm constants and temperature. Two different models viz., Linear Regression Model (LRM) and Model based on Normalized Sum of Squares (NMSS) are used. A database comprising of 120 data points (DB-1) pertaining to Freundlich constants is compiled from literature to find out the trends of n and k on Temperature...
متن کاملMultiscale estimation of the Freundlich adsorption isotherm
Adsorption plays an important role in water and wastewater treatment. The analysis and design of processes that involve adsorption rely on the availability of isotherms that describe these adsorption processes. Adsorption isotherms are usually estimated empirically from measurements of the adsorption process variables. Unfortunately, these measurements are usually contaminated with errors that ...
